We offer a variety of process technologies that can be packaged with our catalysts to create a complete, optimized solution for any hydroprocessing problem or supplied independently.
Criterion is a wholly owned subsidiary of CRI/Criterion Inc., which is a part of Shell Group and a major supplier of refining and petrochemical catalysts, processes and know-how. Criterion operates globally but acts locally. Having multiple research & development, manufacturing and technical services facilities spread around the world gives us better insights into local trends and into an individual customer’s situation and provides the means to respond rapidly to each customer’s current and future needs.
Criterion Catalysts & Technologies is committed to providing high value-added products and catalyst related technical services that meet or exceed our customers’ requirements. Through contribution from all employees, we will continually improve the effectiveness of our Quality Management System.
Criterion people are dedicated to delivering the highest quality products and services. Each department in Criterion has established key performance indicators that are regularly monitored and used to improve our product quality, new product introductions, communications, documentation, logistics and technical support.
We have used the ISO 9000 system since 1990 to develop consistent business processes and procedures and to continuously improve our performance. Our key business operations have been certified to meet the ISO 9002 standard since 1992 and ISO 9001 since 1994. We regularly seek our customers’ feedback to ensure we are improving the areas that are important to them.

Criterion has been the leading innovator of hydroprocessing catalysts and processes for many years. The SynSat process, which was introduced nearly 10 years ago, was the first process to enable low sulfur, low aromatics diesel production at moderate pressure and remains the best choice for making the highest quality diesel. Our innovations in zeolite catalyst technologies over the past 10 years have led to significantly greater productivity from both gasoline and diesel oriented hydrocrackers.
Our advancements in hydrotreating catalyst manufacturing technology – the CENTURY and CENTINEL processes – have enabled us to produce catalysts with superior initial activity and with activity decline rates 50% lower than earlier generations. These breakthroughs have allowed our customers to push their hydrotreaters well beyond past limits.
As we look forward, Criterion believes that it can best help its customers meet their future challenges by continuing these types of innovations. Therefore, we intend to maintain our leadership in research & development investment to create even more powerful solutions for our customers’ hydroprocessing problems. Our four research centers are focused on delivering better catalysts and better operating methodologies at an even faster pace.
We are also working with our partners like Shell Global Solutions to find new ways to upgrade existing hydroprocessing assets to minimize our customers’ future capital investments. Lastly, we will continue building the technical service expertise that our customers will need to get the fast, reliable answers for tomorrow’s problems.
